Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF ADOPTING A DOG THROUGH WCBR?

We emphasize matching the right dog to the right family to have a successful forever home. Completing and submitting the adoption application is the first step and the fastest way to begin the adoption process.

Additional steps may include:

  • Phone interview

  • Veterinary & personal references check

  • Home check via home videos, FaceTime and Google satellite of your home.

  • Adoption fee

  • Adoption contract

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

Please allow 2 weeks for the adoption team to review your application.

Once completed, an adoption coordinator will be in touch regarding your approval status. We strive to find the best fit, lifestyle and environment for each individual Boxer, based on the assessment of daily interactions by the dog’s foster family. This process can take up to 6 weeks or longer for some adoptions. It is dependent on the availability of our volunteers and the right dog for your home.

While it often takes longer to make an appropriate match, sometimes the process moves very quickly. If at any point you are no longer able to adopt a dog, please let us know so we can make the best use of our volunteer hours. Remember each application takes a minimum of 4-5 hours to process fully.

DO YOU ALLOW ADOPTIONS OUTSIDE OF CALIFORNIA/NEVADA?

We only place dogs within our coverage area of California and Nevada since this is where our volunteers reside. We require the application process for everyone that submits and application; we like to meet the potential adopters via FaceTime, Zoom or Meetings, as well as see the living space where the dog will reside.

HOW MUCH ARE THE ADOPTION FEES?

  • The adoption fee is currently $500 for dogs under 1 years of age.

  • The adoption fee for dogs from 1-7 yeas of age is currently $400.

  • Adult dogs from 7 to seniors and older are $300.  Please consider giving one of our amazing seniors a forever home.  There is no greater feeling than giving a senior a caring and loving life for the rest of their days.

  • There is an adoption application donation of $10.

All fees are non-refundable.

WHERE DO I MEET AND PICK UP MY DOG?

All applicants will be asked to come to San Jose in northern California or Rowland Heights in southern California locations to adopt, whichever is closer to you. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU CANNOT COME TO ADOPT A DOG at said locations.

CAN I TURN IN AN APPLICATION EVEN THOUGH I HAVEN’T IDENTIFY A DOG I AM INTERESTED IN?

Yes, our goal once you send in your application is to find you a dog that meets your criteria and is a good match for your household and lifestyle. Sometimes these dogs may not be listed on our site at the time of your application. We are an all-volunteer organization and do our best to process applications as quickly as we can and match our dogs when they are ready.

I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT. CAN I STILL ADOPT FROM WCBR?

Keep in mind that Boxers are considered to be a high energy breed and require a lot of exercise. We do not normally place dogs in apartments or homes without fenced yards; HOWEVER, our adoption coordinators can discuss your living situation and determine if it is a fit for our rescue requirements.

WHY DO ALL THE PETS IN MY HOME NEED TO BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED?

In rescue, we see hundreds of dogs euthanized every year because of overpopulation. Therefore, we feel that we are obligated to help educate the public about this widespread crisis and encourage all potential adopters to be responsible pet owners. Responsible pet ownership means keeping your pets in good health, current on vaccinations, and spaying and/or neutering all pets in the home.

IF THE DOG DOESN'T WORK OUT, WILL YOU TAKE THEM BACK?

Yes! All our dogs are on a contract FOR LIFE. If they cannot be kept by the adoptive home, per our contract they must be returned to WCBR.

CAN I MEET THE DOGS?

We are an all foster based rescue and do not have a central facility where our dogs are housed. All our boxers are in loving foster homes and we only allow for approved applicants to speak with an adoption coordinator or to meet a dog.

DO YOU HAVE A OFFICE OR KENNEL FOR THE RESCUE?

Not at this time. Brick and mortar locations are a VERY expensive financial investment for a rescue. WCBR is run by a group of volunteers that offer their homes as the locations for our dogs to land while we look for their new homes. This provides the dogs an opportunity not only to be in a home with a family, but it also lessens the stress for the dog after they have been pulled from a shelter or turned in from an owner. Some dogs do well in kennels, but not all. We do contract out with a kennel in Rowland Heights, CA where we can keep a dog safe and cared for while we look for a foster home.

DOES APPLYING FOR A DOG GUARANTEE A PLACEMENT?

No. The application is required to potentially adopt, but based on your home environment (kids, cats, other dogs), we simply may not have a dog that would be a god fit for every applicant.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RULES OF WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE AND WHAT ISN’T BY WCBR?

  1. Dog must be an inside dog. It is OK to have an outside dog run with inside access. This is because Boxers must be protected from heat and cold.

  2. Dogs are family members and do not sleep in a garage or outside.

  3. We accept application from families with small children, however, you are required to have 100% supervision between the dog and your child(ren) at all times. If you expect that the new dog will not react when a child hits them, throw toys at them, takes away their toy or food, etc, then please do not adopt from us.

  4. You are not required to have a fenced yard. However, if you do not, you will need to take the dog out for a potty break at least 4 times a day, more if they do not feel well. Same goes for a home with a low fence.

  5. If you are looking to adopt a puppy, please be realistic. Any home where no one is home for more than six hours a day 2-3 times a week will be rejected for puppies.

  6. We do not do female to female placements of bully breeds. That means Boxer, Bulldog, Pit bulls, etc. We will consider female to female adoption of dogs with extreme age and size difference.
